William Stevenson is a 40 years old Londoner. He always lived in London. After he has been living in Finchley, he is now living at Cricklehood, both in the north-west of Greater London. He has chose to live out the town center in order to have a pleasant life with his wife and his two children.
M. Stevenson is working in an office in the center of London, precisely in Newman Street, near to Oxford and Regent Street. He is the technical manager of a company which build website for others company (included mine, it is why I met him). He is now manager, but 20 years ago, he was selling newspapers in front of Finchley Central Station. Even if he is not an immigrate person and he does not live in USA, it compares his evolution with the American Dream: each motivated people can find easily a job, and with hard work, each motivated people can easily climb the social scale.
When I asked him the main disadvantage of his city, he does not hesitate one second before talk to me about transport. To his mind, each method of transport is awful. For example, if he wants to go to works in car, he has to pay the congestion charge in order to join his office. I find that it is a good solution to reduce pollution, but on the other hand, public transport is not a solution. Indeed, he has to pay a lot in order to have a valid oyster card from home to his office.
To finish, we talked about the different cultures existing in London. He told to me that this melting plot is not recent so he has always lived next to other cultures. To his mind, his situation is normal for a majority of Londoners, moreover, it is why the culture is an important part of London.
